A simple swipe of lipstick can instantly make lips pop, but have you ever wondered what is the correct way to apply it?  Believe it or not, there are some golden rules when it comes to a flawless lipstick application.  Follow the steps below and you will be guaranteed to have the perfect pout!

Step 1: Exfoliate

Lipstick will not adhere properly to dry, cracked lips! Start by removing any dead skin by using a lip scrub (a toothbrush will work too!). We prefer Bite Beauty Fruit Scrub in Whipped Cherry. Moisten lips then gently exfoliate, and wipe clean with a damp, warm washcloth.

Step 2: Hydrate

Now that you’ve achieved a smooth canvas, it’s time to moisturize and lock in hydration. Our Lip Slip by Sara Happ is a luxurious lip balm that hydrates, heals, and will leave lips feeling super soft the entire day. Long wearing and matte lipsticks may tend to dry out lips, so this step is crucial if you prefer wearing those type of lipsticks. The Clarins Instant Light Natural Lip Perfector, Lip Gloss will give color and a shine of gloss with all the benefits of a skincare.  You can wear alone or on top of your favorite lipstick.

Step 3: Lip Liner

Lip Liner not only gives the illusion of fuller lips, but it also can prevent bleeding and feathering. We like to select a lip liner that is a close match, if not the same color, to our lipstick. Nude lip liners can add instant volume as well. The Urban Decay Ultimate Ozone Multipurpose Primer Pencil stops lipstick from bleeding over the edges of your lips.

Step 4: Applying Color

Swipe on your favorite lipstick by applying the color at the center of the upper lip or cupid bow area. Move outward toward one corner. Start again at the center and swipe the other corner, then repeat with the lower lip. Our Clinique Pop Lip Colour + Primer has a built-in primer for longer wear.

Step 5: Use A Tissue to Blot Lips

Lipstick smeared on your teeth is a no-no! To prevent this from happening grab a tissue, fold in half and gently blot any excess product!
