It’s summertime and nothing is better than a delicious barbecue in the great outdoors. After a long winter, we are thrilled to finally pull the cover off the grill and start cooking out on our deck. We might not be master chefs, but having the right ingredients from our local Giant Eagle, makes us look like culinary experts. Whether we are grilling for two or for a big crowd, it’s the perfect place to find all the right accessories needed to pull off a festive party. Let’s call it a one stop shop! On the menu is a juicy, seasoned, beef angus burger with a mouthwatering creamy blue cheese and bacon topping. Delicious baked beans are served with a twist and a kick that you will want a refreshing, flavored Aquafina sparkling water to wash it all down. A barbecue like this deserves one final component, and that’s dessert! What is a burger without a shake, right? We’ve got a thick, cookies and cream milkshake made with Breyers homemade vanilla ice cream. Yum! We’ve taken this classic American meal to a new level with a few extra culinary ingredients. The only thing missing is our roller skates when serving this all American meal!
For us, it’s all about convenience when grocery shopping. Luckily, we have two Giant Eagle locations within 10 minutes from each of our homes. Navigating through each store is simple and easy. We found the Aquafina Sparkling Water (black cherry dragonfruit) in the bottled water aisle, and of course the Breyers Ice Cream in the dessert area of the freezer section. The Heinz BBQ sauce was located in three separate areas, seasonal, condiment aisle, and end cap.
The friendly butchers behind the meat counter are always helpful when purchasing any of Market District’s high quality meats. One of our favorite sections this time of year is the seasonal aisle, which carries everything and anything to complete our outdoor picnic or barbecue.
These thick and juicy Angus beef burgers are already deliciously seasoned, so it’s up to your own personal preference to add more.
Presentation is also important to us when having an outdoor gathering. We love to serve our guests using colorful, festive dinnerware.
Cheers to a fizzy, cool and refreshing sparkling water from Aquafina. The black cherry dragonfruit flavor is the perfect beverage to wash down our yummy burger. We added a few red raspberries that complimented the flavor and gave it a pop of color.

Creamy Blue Cheese and Bacon Spread
4 slices of crumbled cooked bacon
1 cup finely chopped onion
1/2 cup Hellmann’s Real Mayonnaise
4 ounces crumbled blue cheese
1/8 tsp. ground black pepper
Mix all together then serve. You may make ahead and refrigerate before serving.
Baked Beans With A Twist
6 thick-cut bacon slices, chopped
1 cup chopped sweet onion
2 garlic cloves, minced
2 (16-oz.) cans of light red kidney beans, drained and rinsed
1 (16-oz.) can of black beans, drained and rinsed
1 (15-oz.) can of baked beans with bacon and brown sugar
1/2 cup of packed brown sugar
2-3 tablespoons of sriracha sauce
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Cook bacon in a large skillet over medium heat until crisp. Remove, reserving 2 tablespoons of drippings in skillet. Add in onions and cook stirring often, until tender, about 5 minutes. Then add garlic and cook for 1 minute.
Stir together bacon, onion mixture, baked beans, and all other ingredients in a large bowl. Spoon into a lightly greased 9 X 13-inch baking dish. Bake uncovered with aluminum foil, for 30 minutes. Uncover and bake an additional 30 minutes.
Cookies and Cream Milkshake:
1 cup chocolate cookies or wafer cookies
1/4 cup milk
1 pint of Breyers Homemade Vanilla Ice Cream
Soak the cookies in milk to soften. Combine cookies and ice cream and blend until smooth. More milk may be added to reach consistency of your choice or for extra creaminess.
