Growing up in families of coffee devotees has definitely influenced our love for the bean. We both cherish childhood memories of inhaling the intoxicating aroma of a freshly brewed pot of coffee mingled with comforting hours of shooting the breeze with Nona over our delicious cup of joe. Karen’s first little girl sips of “Angel Coffee” as prepared by her Nunnie consisted of three quarters cup of half and half creamer plus one quarter cup of coffee. Over time as our palettes matured, our coffee appreciation has expanded to include a wide variety of coffee drinks enhanced by flavorful syrups. Creamy Lattes, Frappuccinos, and iced coffees beckon us quite frequently to our local coffee shops or companies like Corporate Coffee Systems. Our latest coffee obsession is the Small Batch Cold Brew Coffee available at Starbucks, also in packs so that comprises the list of gifts for students, friends, family etc. After tasting this delicious brew, and watching a DIY demo on The Today Show, we thought let’s try our hand at making this at home. Follow along using Sticky Toffee Caramel Crème Coffee grounds and in a few short steps you’ll be sipping a cold, super smooth, non-acidic beverage. Drink and Enjoy!
1 cup coarsely ground coffee
4 cups cold water
cheesecloth or coffee filter
Pour cold water into pitcher or container. Add coffee grounds into the water and stir. You will notice that all the coffee grounds will settle at the top. Wait about 10-15 minutes then stir again so the coffee will settle at the bottom. Cover and steep at room temperature for 12-14 hours. Now line a strainer or pitcher with cheesecloth and strain coffee through the cheesecloth. Discard the grounds, then store in refrigerator. You may use coffee filters in place of cheesecloth. Serve over ice and enjoy!
