For those of you that are tired of eating all those Christmas cookies, here is a quick and easy dessert for your New Year’s Eve party. These Oreo balls are so simple, even the kids can help you with this one!  Because they are made with chocolate, you can serve with a sparkling wine.

Ingredients needed:

1 package of regular Oreos

1 block of softened cream cheese

1 16 oz. bag of chocolate wafers for melting

Toothpicks

Instructions:

Grind package of Oreos in a food processor.  Add block of softened cream cheese and mix thoroughly together.  Roll mixture into small balls and place on a waxed cookie sheet, to prevent from sticking.   A toothpick should now be placed in each ball prior to freezing and dipping.  When finished, place in your freezer for a couple of hours so that the Oreo balls have hardened.  While freezing, start to melt your chocolate in a double boiler or a small crock pot. Once the Oreo balls have hardened and the chocolate is melted, dip one at a time into your melted chocolate until fully covered, then place back on to waxed cookie sheet.  When complete, place tray back into freezer until you are ready to serve.

A New Year’s Eve Celebration would not be complete without a little bubbly.  Once again Bill D’Amico, from Chalet Premier, gave us a few suggestions to help bring in the New Year.  Did you know that a “true” champagne is produced from grapes grown in the Champagne Region of France? We included one champagne below if you wanted to try one for yourself and taste the difference. Prices range from approximately $10-$50 per bottle.

Sonoma Brut Magnum, Gloria Ferrer –An award winning, versatile bubbly, that will leave you tasting flavors of citrus and apple, ending in a creamy toasty finish.  This sparkling wine consists of a blend of pinot noir and chardonnay grapes.  You will notice a hint of pear, floral, and almond.  Pair with shellfish, crab, roasted chicken or sushi.

Ballatore Gran Spumante-Similar to the Spumantes from the Asti region of Italy.  This fresh, well balanced sparkling wine has flavors of melon that make a crisp clean finish.  The carefully selected California grapes, and the aroma of ripe peaches and apricots combine to make this an enjoyable wine.  Great for any occasion or try pairing with a variety of desserts.

Veuve Clicquot DEMI-SEC- The aroma of this champagne is that of ripe fruit and hints of brioche. A lot like a sparkling Vouvray, but more intense. This golden yellow, slightly sweet wine will leave your palate full of nicely layered flavors. Pairs well with desserts, Godiva dark chocolate, classic truffles and pralines.

Schramsberg Blanc De Blancs- (White from White) A dry, crisp, sparkling wine made from Chardonnay with the aroma of green apples and pineapple.  This very vibrant wine is best known for being served during a speech given by President Nixon.  Enjoy by itself, or with fresh oysters, shellfish, crab cakes, grilled sea bass, and a variety of hard cheeses.

Karen’s New puppy “Archie”

Karen –

The week Lauren & I started our Blog, my family had to put our precious dog Max to rest. We have missed him so much and I decided getting a new puppy for Christmas would be a wonderful gift for the family.  We welcomed little “Archie” an 8 week old Morkie into the family on December 19th. I wanted to share some of my favorite sites to shop for our NEW as well as our older furry friends!
